Pictures of the Week: August 2, 2013

The Denver Post Pictures of the Week puts together a collection of images, chosen from thousands, of the strongest photojournalism from around the world.

 Francis listens to a journalist’s question as he flies back to Rome following his visit to Brazil July 29, 2013.  Francis, in some of the most conciliatory words from any pontiff on gays, said they should not be judged or marginalized and should be integrated into society, but he reaffirmed Church teaching that homosexual acts are a sin.

Rasheda said she lost one of her hands and another one has been critically injured in an accident while working for the steel company in Chittagong, Bangladesh. International attention has been focused on workers safety in Bangladesh since the disaster at Rana Plaza, a garment factory complex which collapsed in April, killing 1,132 workers.

A Bangladeshi woman survivor is lifted out of the rubble by rescuers at the site of a building that collapsed Wednesday in Savar, near Dhaka, Bangladesh, Thursday, April 25, 2013. By Monday, the death toll reached over 350 people as rescuers continued to search for injured and missing, after a huge section of an eight-story building that housed several garment factories splintered into a pile of concrete.
